Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, ideal for both brush and airbrush techniques. These paints can effectively be applied on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all typical model plastics. They provide admirable coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Any paint that has not cured can be rinsed off with plain water.
When using an airbrush, make sure to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Finishing: X labeled colors feature a glossy finish, while XF colors are of a flat finish.
- Thinner: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) help as a flattening agent for Tamiya gloss paints. Combine any X-gloss color with flat base at a ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for airbrushing, yielding quicker drying times and a more durable finish.
- Finishing: For superior brushing results, apply Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to achieve a smoother finish free from brush strokes.
