Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated with water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for brush application or airbrushing. These paints work well on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and typical modeling plastics. The paint provides excellent coverage, flows consistently, and allows for easy blending. It can be removed with plain water before it dries.
When using an airbrush, ensure to mix with any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing:
- The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner results in faster drying times and a harder finish.
- Finishing:
- For improved brush results, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for smoother finish.
- Thinner:
- Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can act as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss colors. Mix in a 1:1 ratio.
Please note: Colors designated with an 'X' have a glossy finish while those with 'XF' indicate a flat finish.
