Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints utilize water-soluble acrylic resins, making them an excellent choice for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints adhere well to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and various model plastics. The paint ensures good coverage, smooth application, and can be easily blended. Any paint can be washed away with plain water before it cures.
For airbrushing, make sure to use one of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can serve as a flattening agent when mixed with Tamiya Gloss bottle paints. A mixing ratio of 1:1 is recommended.
- Thinner: For faster drying results and a tougher finish, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used to thin the paint for airbrushing.
- Flattering: To improve brushing outcomes, it is advisable to use Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smoother brushstroke-free finish.
