Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints work effectively on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and other standard model plastics. The paint provides excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending capabilities. It can be washed away with plain water before it cures.
When using an airbrush, it is essential to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint bottle label meanings and quick tips:
- Glossy Finish: X designated colors.
- Flat Finish: XF designated colors.
- Airbrushing Thinner: Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner can be used to thin the paint.
- Flattening Agent: Utilize Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. Combine any X-gloss color with the flat base in a 1:1 mixing ratio.
- Faster Drying: For quicker drying and a tougher finish, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner may also be used for thinning.
- Smoother Brush Strokes: Using Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) will enhance the brushing experience by creating a smoother finish without brush strokes.
