Historical Context
Tamiya's acrylic paints are formulated with water-soluble acrylic resins, which makes them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing applications. These paints can adhere to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and a variety of common model plastics. They exhibit excellent coverage, flow smoothly, and can be blended with ease. The paint can be cleaned off with plain water before it dries.
When utilizing an airbrush, it is critical to use any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Airbrushing: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Finishing: Colors labeled with X are glossy, while those marked XF have a flat finish.
- Thinner: This paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattering: Use items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) to achieve a flat finish by mixing gloss colors in a 1:1 ratio with flat base.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, leading to faster drying times and a tougher finish.
- Flattering: For optimal paint brushing results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can be used to achieve a smoother, brushstroke-free finish.
