Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for brush painting or airbrushing. This particular paint works effectively on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all standard model plastics. It covers well, flows effortlessly, and allows for easy blending. If necessary, the paint can be removed with plain water before it cures.
When utilizing an airbrush, be sure to use one of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner will provide faster drying times and a tougher finish.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) serve as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. Combine any X-gloss color with the flat base in a ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: For optimal brush results, consider adding Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a flawless brushstroke-free finish.
