Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing applications. They are suitable for a variety of materials including styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common model plastics. This paint offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. It can be washed away with plain water before it cures.
When airbrushing, it is crucial to use any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can serve as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss finishes. Mix in any X-gloss color and add flat base in a 1:1 ratio.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, resulting in faster drying and a harder finish.
- Flattering: For optimal brushing results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can be added to achieve a smoother, brushstroke-free finish.
