Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are composed of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for brush and airbrush techniques. These paints can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. The paint ensures excellent coverage, flows easily, and blends seamlessly. Before curing, the paint can be removed using water.
For airbrushing, utilize the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can serve as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss colors. Mix any X-gloss hue followed by the flat base at a 1:1 ratio.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, resulting in quicker drying times and a more durable finish.
- Flattering: For improved brushwork, add Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to achieve a smoother, brushstroke-free appearance.
