Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are composed of water-soluble resins, ideal for brush application or airbrush techniques. This versatile paint is suitable for styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common model plastics. It offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. While still wet, the paint can be removed with plain water.
For airbrushing, ensure to use Tamiya thinners such as:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint labeling and quick tips:
- Glossy or Flat Finish: X colors are glossy, while XF colors are flat.
- Thinning for Airbrushing: Use Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner for thinning.
- Flattening Agent: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be added to gloss colors for a matte finish. Recommended mixing ratio is 1:1.
- Using Lacquer Thinner: Thinning can also be achieved with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for enhanced drying speed and finish hardness.
