Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, ideal for brush painting or airbrushing. This acrylic paint can be applied on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common modeling plastics. It offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. The paint can be cleaned off with plain water before it dries.
For airbrushing, use any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) serve as flattening agents for Tamiya Gloss paints. Mix ratios should be 1:1 with any X-gloss color.
- Thinner: Optionally, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used which achieves quicker drying times and a tougher finish.
- Flattering: Use Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smoother finish when brushing.
