Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are made from water-soluble acrylic resins, perfect for brush painting or airbrushing. These paints are compatible with styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all common model plastics. They provide excellent coverage, smooth flow, and can be easily blended. Uncured paint can be washed off with plain water.
When using an airbrush, it is essential to select from the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paints come with labels denoting the finish type, along with valuable tips:
- Airbrushing:
- X appointed colors have a glossy finish, while XF colors are flat.
- The paint can be thinned with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner for airbrushing.
- Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be added to Tamiya Gloss paints to achieve a flat finish using a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for quicker drying and a harder finish.
- For superior brush application, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended to achieve a flawless finish.
