Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are water-soluble and suitable for brush painting or airbrushing. These paints adhere well to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common plastics. The smooth flow and good coverage allow for easy blending. Before curing, paint can be removed with water.
When using an airbrush, Tamiya recommends the following thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner, or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for quicker drying and harder finishes.
- Finishing: For flat finishes, use Tamiya X-21 Flat Base by mixing in a 1:1 ratio with any X-gloss color.
- Thinner: To ensure smooth brush strokes, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended.
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 may also serve as flattening agents when mixed accordingly.
