Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated with water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush application and airbrushing. These paints work effectively on materials such as styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. The paint has excellent coverage, a smooth flow, and can be easily blended. If needed, the paint can be removed with plain water before it sets.
When using an airbrush, it is recommended to combine the paint with any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint bottle label meanings and quick tips include:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can work as a flattening agent on Tamiya Gloss paints. Mix at a 1:1 ratio.
- Thinner: The paint can also be thinned using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for quicker drying and a tougher finish.
- Flattering: For optimal brush application, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended to achieve a smoother, streak-free finish.
