Historical Context
Tamiya's acrylic paints utilize water-soluble acrylic resins, perfect for either brush application or airbrush techniques. This paint is suitable for styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and many standard model plastics. It provides excellent coverage, smooth flow, and can be easily blended. Before curing, the paint can be removed with just plain water.
When using an airbrush, it’s important to select from the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing:
- The paint can be thinned for use with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- The paint can also be thinned for airbrush use using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, which provides quicker drying times and a harder finish.
- Finishing:
- Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can act as a flattening agent on Tamiya Gloss paints. Mix 1 part flat base to 1 part gloss.
- Thinner:
- For improved painting results, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to achieve smoother brush strokes.
