Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing techniques. They can be applied on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and various model plastics. The paint offers great coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Before it cures, paint can be removed using plain water.
For airbrushing, use any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Airbrushing: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can serve as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. Combine any X-gloss color with flat base at a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: You can also thin the paint using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, resulting in faster drying times and a harder finish.
- Flattering: For optimal brush results, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to achieve a smooth brushstroke-free finish.
