Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are produced using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for brush painting or airbrushing applications. They can be applied on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and most common model plastics. The paint offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and can be easily blended. Before curing, paint can easily be removed with plain water.
When using for airbrushing, it is recommended to employ Tamiya thinners such as the following: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be used as a flattening agent on Tamiya Gloss bottle paints. Add any X-gloss color before adding the flat base in a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be utilized for airbrushing to achieve quicker drying times and a tougher finish.
- Flattering: For improved brushwork, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can help achieve a smooth, brushstroke-free finish.
