Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are crafted using water-soluble acrylic resins, perfect for both brush painting and airbrushing. This paint can be effectively applied on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. It provides excellent coverage, smooth flow, and allows for easy blending. If needed, the paint can be washed away with plain water before curing.
For airbrushing, use the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Glossy vs Flat: X appointed colors have a glossy finish, while XF designated colors are flat finish.
- Thinning for Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattering: Use Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) to flatten Tamiya Gloss paints. Mix ratio: 1:1.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning; it results in faster drying and a harder finish.
- Finishing: For improved brush results, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smooth finish.
