Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. They work effectively on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common model plastics. The paint adheres well, flows evenly, and allows for easy blending. Uncured paint can be eliminated with plain water.
When using an airbrush, ensure to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing:
- The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- The paint can also be thinned using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for quicker drying and a tougher finish.
- Finishing:
- Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) may be used to flatten Tamiya Gloss bottle paints. Mix in a 1:1 ratio with any X-gloss color.
- Flattering:
- For enhanced brushwork results, employ Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for smooth, brushstroke-free finishing.
