Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins and are suitable for both brush and airbrush applications. They can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common model plastics. This paint provides excellent coverage, flows evenly, and blends seamlessly. It can be easily removed with plain water before drying.
When using an airbrush, always use one of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint labels denote specific characteristics, and here are some quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Use Tamiya X-21 Flat Base (Items 81521 and 81021) to create a matte finish by mixing it with a glossy color at a 1:1 ratio.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, offering quicker drying times and a tougher finish.
- Flattering: For improved results when brushing, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to achieve a smoother finish without brush strokes.
