Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for brush painting or airbrushing. They can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and most common model plastics. The coverage is excellent, ensuring smooth application and easy blending. Any excess paint can be cleaned up with plain water before it cures.
When airbrushing, it is important to use one of the Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: Use Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner to thin paint for airbrushing. Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for quicker drying and a tougher finish.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be added to glossy paints to achieve a flat finish. Use a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: For optimal results with paint brushes, employ Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to improve brushstrokes.
