Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints utilize water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints adhere well to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and other common model plastics. The formula ensures solid coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Furthermore, any paint that hasn't cured can be easily washed away with plain water.
For airbrushing purposes, it is crucial to utilize the following Tamiya thinners:
- Airbrushing: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
The labels on Tamiya paint bottles signify:
- Glossy Finish: X designated colors.
- Flat Finish: XF designated colors.
For thinning paint suitable for airbrushing, Tamiya X-20A Acrylic Thinner is recommended. Moreover, Tamiya X-21 Flat Base (Items 81521 and 81021) can be combined with any gloss color to achieve a flat effect, using a 1:1 mixing ratio. Utilizing Tamiya Lacquer Thinner also improves drying time and hardness of the finish. Additionally, for optimal brush painting results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is suggested for a smooth, brushstroke-free finish.
