Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated from water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing. This type of paint is compatible with styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and a range of common model plastics. The product offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. It can be easily washed away with plain water before curing.
For airbrushing, it is recommended to use any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Airbrushing: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.

- Colors: X designated colors are glossy, while XF colors are flat.
- Thinning: Use Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner for airbrushing.
- Flattening: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be mixed at a ratio of 1:1 with gloss colors.
- Alternative Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for quicker drying and a harder finish.
- Retardant: Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended for improved brushstroke finishes.
