Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing applications. This paint performs well on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. It ensures excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Any paint that hasn't cured can be removed with plain water.
When using an airbrush, it is essential to apply Tamiya thinners from the following list: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label color meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: Thinning for airbrush can be done using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, the latter providing quicker drying times and a harder finish.
- Finishing: For a matte finish, Tamiya X-21 Flat Base (Items 81521 and 81021) can be mixed with any glossy Tamiya color in a 1:1 ratio.
- Thinner: Use Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for a quicker drying finish.
- Flatting: For optimal brushing results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended to achieve a smoother finish.
