Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints utilize water-soluble acrylic resins and are suitable for brush or airbrush application. These paints can be effectively used on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and various modeling plastics. They offer excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Remarkably, the paint can be washed off with plain water before it has fully cured.
When airbrushing, ensure to use any of the Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint bottle labels indicate the following:
- Finishing: Colors marked with X feature a glossy finish, while XF colors are known for their flat finish.
- Thinner: The paint is compatible with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner for airbrushing.
- Flattering: Add flat base (Items 81521 and 81021) to any X-gloss color for a matte finish, maintaining a 1:1 mixing ratio.
- Thinner: For faster-drying results and a tougher finish, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used.
- Finishing: To achieve a smoother brushstroke-free application, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended.
