Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing. They are suitable for use on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and other typical model plastics. This paint provides good coverage, flows evenly, and allows for easy blending. Before it cures, the paint can be rinsed off with plain water.
When airbrushing, it is essential to utilize any Tamiya thinners, including the following:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint bottle label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can act as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. Add any X-gloss color, followed by the flat base, in a 1:1 mixing ratio.
- Thinner: The paint can also be thinned with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, resulting in quicker drying and a harder finish.
- Flattering: For improved brushing results, use Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to achieve a smoother, brushstroke-free application.
