Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are made using water-soluble acrylic resins, suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing techniques. These paints work well on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. The paint delivers excellent coverage, flows smoothly, and can be easily blended. If necessary, paint can be washed off with plain water before it cures.
When using an airbrush, it is important to choose from the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Thinner: It can also be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, resulting in quicker drying and a harder finish.
- Finishing: To achieve a smoother finish while brushing, consider using Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114).
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can serve as a flattening agent when mixed with gloss colors. Use a mixing ratio of 1:1.
