Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are composed of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them perfect for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and most standard model plastics. The paint provides excellent coverage, flows evenly, and allows easy blending. Prior to curing, it can be washed off with plain water.
When using airbrush techniques, ensure the use of Tamiya thinners for optimal results:
- Airbrushing: Use any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint labels and useful tips:
- Finishing: XF colors have a flat finish, while X colors are glossy.
- Thinner: The paint can be thinned with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner for airbrushing.
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be added to Tamiya Gloss colors to create a flat finish. Mix ratio is 1:1.
- Flattering: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, resulting in quicker drying and a harder finish.
- Finishing: For superior brush results, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smoother finish.
