Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated from water-soluble acrylic resins and are suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all typical model plastics. The paint offers excellent coverage, flows seamlessly, and blends effortlessly. It can be washed away with plain water prior to curing.
When using an airbrush, it is advised to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.

- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) may be used as a flattening agent on Tamiya Gloss bottle paints. Mix 1:1 with any X-gloss color.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, yielding quicker drying times and a harder finish.
- Flattering: For optimal results when brush painting, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can be added for a smoother finish.
