Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated with water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush and airbrush applications. These paints can be used on various materials such as styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and common model plastics. They cover well, flow smoothly, and can be easily blended. Prior to curing, the paint can be cleaned up with plain water.
When using an airbrush, it is advisable to utilize specific Tamiya thinners, which include the following products:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077
Tamiya bottle paint labels signify different characteristics which are important to note:
- Tip: X designation indicates a glossy finish, while XF refers to a flat finish.
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be added to Tamiya Gloss paints to achieve a flat finish. Use a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for thinning, resulting in faster drying times and a harder finish.
- Finishing: For optimal brush painting results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended for a smoother finish without brush strokes.
