Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are produced using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints can effectively cover styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. The paint offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and can be easily blended. It can be washed away with regular water before it dries.
When using an airbrush, it is essential to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint bottle labels feature specific meanings and helpful hints:
- Airbrushing:
The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner or Tamiya lacquer thinner. The latter provides quicker drying times and a more durable finish. - Finishing:
Utilize Tamiya X-21 Flat Base (items 81521 and 81021) for a flattening effect on Tamiya glossy paints. Add a X-gloss color, then the flat base in a 1:1 mixing ratio. - Thinner:
For optimal airbrushing results, Tamiya paint retarder (item 87114) can be used to achieve a smoother, streak-free finish.
