Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are constructed from water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing applications. This paint can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and most common model plastics. It offers good coverage, flows effortlessly, and can be easily blended. If the paint is not yet cured, it can be washed away using plain water.
When airbrushing, it is crucial to use one of the compatible Tamiya thinners:
- Airbrushing: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Colors: X designated colors have a glossy finish, while XF indicated colors provide a flat finish.
- Thinning: For airbrushing, Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner can be used.
- Flattening: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) act as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss bottle paints. Combine any X-gloss color with flat base at a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Additional Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for airbrush thinning, resulting in quicker drying time and a tougher finish.
- Brush Techniques: Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can enhance brush stroke results for a smoother finish.
