Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints are compatible with styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and most model plastics, providing excellent coverage and smooth flow, with the ability to blend easily. Prior to curing, any uncured paint can be removed using plain water.
When using an airbrush, ensure to use one of the recommended Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Colors: X appointed colors provide a glossy finish while XF designated colors are for a flat finish.
- Thinning: For airbrushing, use Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flat Base: Items 81521 and 81021 can be used as a flattening agent. Mix with any X-gloss color at a 1:1 ratio.
- Lacquer Thinner: Can also thin paint for airbrushing, resulting in a faster drying time and a harder finish.
- Retarder: Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can improve brush application for a smoother finish.
