Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated from water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for brush painting or airbrushing applications. These paints can be effectively used on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, as well as most standard model plastics. The paint is known for its excellent coverage, smooth flow, and ease of blending. If needed, the paint can be easily washed away with plain water before it cures.
When using an airbrush, it is important to utilize Tamiya thinners: Items 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: To flatten Tamiya Gloss bottle paints, add any Gloss color with Tamiya X-21 Flat Base (Items 81521 and 81021) in a 1:1 mixing ratio.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for airbrushing to achieve quicker drying and a tougher finish.
- Flattering: For superior brushing results, incorporate Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) to create a smoother finish free of brush strokes.
