Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated with water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for both brush painting and airbrushing. This particular paint can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and other common model plastics. It offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Before it cures, the paint can be easily washed off with plain water.
When using an airbrush, it’s important to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Tamiya Thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner. Using Tamiya Lacquer Thinner will result in quicker drying times and a firmer finish.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can act as a flattening agent for gloss Tamiya paints. Simply add any X-gloss color along with the flat base at a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: The paint can also be thinned with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner for improved airbrush applications, resulting in a faster drying and more durable finish.
- Flattering: To enhance brush painting results, consider using Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smoother finish without brush strokes.
