Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them ideal for brush painting or airbrushing. These paints are applicable on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and most common model plastics. The paint provides excellent coverage, flows smoothly, and is easy to blend. It can be removed with plain water before curing.
For airbrushing, it is advisable to use any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Items: 81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint labeling details and quick tips include:
- Color Designations: X colors have a glossy finish, whereas XF colors represent a flat finish.
- Thinner: For airbrushing, use Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattening: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) are effective as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. Mix ratio: 1:1.
- Fast Drying: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner provides quicker drying times and a harder finish when used.
- Paint Brushing: Enhance brushing results with Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smooth finish without brush strokes.
