Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins, suitable for brush painting or airbrushing. These paints can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and standard model plastics. They provide good coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Any paint that has not yet cured can be removed with plain water.
When using an airbrush, it is important to utilize any of the following Tamiya thinners: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint may be thinned for airbrush use with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) serve as a flattening agent when mixed with Tamiya Gloss bottle paints, following a 1:1 mixing ratio with any X-gloss color.
- Thinner: For quicker drying and a firmer finish, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used to thin the paint.
- Flattering: For improved brush application, one may use Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smooth, brushstroke-free finish.
