Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are composed of water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. This paint can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and a variety of model plastics. It offers excellent coverage, smooth flow, and easy blending. Prior to curing, the paint can be removed with plain water.
For airbrushing, it's important to use Tamiya thinners such as:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya bottle paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Colors: X designated colors provide a glossy finish, while XF colors are flat.
- Thinning for airbrushing: Use Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattening Agents: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be mixed with gloss colors for flat finishes. Mixing ratio: 1:1.
- Lacquer Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can be used for faster drying and a harder finish.
- Brush Retarder: Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) helps achieve a smoother brushstroke-free finish.
