Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are produced from water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints can be applied to styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all common model plastics. The paint provides excellent coverage, flows smoothly, and can be easily blended. For clean-up before curing, simply use plain water.
When using an airbrush, ensure to utilize any of the Tamiya thinners listed below:
- Items-81020
- Items-81030
- Items-81040
- Items-81520
- Items-87077
Tamiya bottle paint labels signify the following:
- The colors marked with 'X' offer a glossy finish, while 'XF' colors are designated with a flat finish.
- Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner can be used to thin the paint for airbrushing.
- Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) function as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss bottle paints. Combine any X-gloss color with flat base at a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- To achieve faster drying and a harder finish, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can be used to thin the paint for airbrushing.
- For optimal brush results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) is recommended to enhance smoother brushstroke-free application.
