Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated using water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing. These paints can be applied on surfaces made from styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all typical model plastics. They offer good coverage, smooth flow, and the ability to blend easily. Before curing, the paint can be washed off with plain water.
When airbrushing, it is recommended to use any of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Airbrushing: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Finishing: X appointed colors provide a glossy finish, while XF designated colors are flat finishes.
- Thinner: This paint can be thinned for airbrushing with Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) can be mixed with any X-gloss color to create a flatter finish, with a mixing ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: For quicker drying results and a harder finish, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner may also be used for thinning.
- Finishing: To enhance brush application results, Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) can be added for a smoother, streak-free finish.
