Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints consist of water-soluble acrylic resins and are highly effective for brush painting and airbrushing. These paints can be applied on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and all common model plastics. They offer excellent coverage, smooth flow, and ease of blending. Uncured paint can be easily washed away using plain water.
When utilizing an airbrush, it is essential to utilize one of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint labeling includes definitions and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: X appointed colors have a glossy finish, while XF indicated colors are flat finish.
- Finishing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Flattering: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) serve as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. Combine any X-gloss color followed by flat base in a 1:1 mixing ratio.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for airbrushing, providing quicker drying time and a tougher finish.
- Finishing: To improve brush application results, utilize Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) for a smoother finish free from brush strokes.
