Historical Context
Tamiya acrylic paints are formulated from water-soluble acrylic resins, making them suitable for both brush painting and airbrushing applications. This paint works effectively on styrene resins, Styrofoam, wood, and various common model plastics. It offers excellent coverage, a smooth flow, and allows for easy blending. If it needs to be removed before curing, it can be washed away with plain water.
When using an airbrush, it is crucial to use one of the following Tamiya thinners:
- Thinner: Items-81020, 81030, 81040, 81520, 87077.
Tamiya paint label meanings and quick tips:
- Airbrushing: The paint can be thinned for airbrushing using Tamiya X-20A Acrylic thinner.
- Finishing: Items 81521 and 81021 (Tamiya X-21 Flat Base) serve as a flattening agent for Tamiya Gloss paints. To mix, add any X-gloss color along with flat base in a ratio of 1:1.
- Thinner: Tamiya Lacquer Thinner can also be used for airbrushing, providing faster drying time and a harder finish.
- Flattering: For improved brush painting results, incorporate Tamiya Paint Retarder (item 87114) into your paint mixture for a smoother finish devoid of brushstrokes.
